Case Study: Risk & Continuity

Business Aspect was engaged by an organisation that provides IT services such as application hosting predominantly to smaller financial institutions.

The organisation required relocation of the production data centre to a new and significantly upgraded facility while minimising service outages for clients. The services provided are fundamentally continuously available financial services and very sensitive to outages and faults.

The approach adopted was to clear establish a set of success criteria that were controlled and monitored by TSWG’s clients. This effectively meant that the transition of production to the new data centre would not occur until client’s had tested and signed off that the service operated correctly.

This approach enforced rigorous planning, testing and risk control. The process was underpinned by good communications to the client base to assure them their business operations were well looked after.

Our role was driven by a risk identification and management process. This ensured that the effort was focused on the tasks that delivered the appropriate outcomes with minimal risk.

A successful production migration was achieved and the data centre capabilities were substantially upgraded in the process (e.g. virtualisation and SAN storage). The clients provided very positive feedback on the outcomes and the process.
