Case Study: Business Continuity Planning

Business Aspect performed a business impact assessment (BIA) and risk analysis focussing on the availability and continuity of the business operations of a major government service provider. Following the BIA and risk analysis, a comprehensive business continuity plan (BCP) was developed based on a BCP policy and methodology designed as precursors to development of the BCP.

A consultative approach was taken that included workshops and interviews with key stakeholders, including business managers. Results of the BIA were used to derive business process recovery timeframes and associated dependencies and requirements. Key roles and responsibilities within the company were also defined and documented. Minimum resource requirements for the continuation of critical business processes were also assessed. This assessment covered specific requirements for information, locations, communications and computing infrastructure and systems.

A significant component of the plan was a defined process to be followed during a recovery and return to business operation.
